For 2019, Zion Paragliding presents a new course for pilots looking to get into competitive paragliding and learn more about competition theory. This year, Iquique will host the Iquique Open and Zion Paragliding are ready to help guide you through your first paragliding competition or help you improve your current competition technique.
This course is for intermediate pilots who want to improve their XC flying and competition technique. Flying in competitions is a great way to improve your XC flying. With more pilots in the air you will be able to visualize the thermals and the best lines to take on glide.
It is your responsibility to register and pay the fees for the competition, Open Iquique 2019 - register now to avoid disappointment.
About The Course
Seven days of competition mentoring and theory
Five days of competing in the Iquique Open 30 Oct - 3 Nov.
Morning briefings of the task and debriefings following the task and result
Free flying days on 4th and 5th November
Improve your XC flying as well as your competition technique.
What Will You Learn
How to thermal in a gaggle.
How to use your gps to programme a competition task.
Tactics and technique used in competition flying.
How competition scoring works.
7 Days of competition mentoring and technique
Transportation to take-off and retrieve during competition (provided by the competition organisers)
Airport pickup from Iquique National Airport
Registration for the competition (you will need to register yourself for the competition on airtribune) Register Now

What You Need
USHPA P2 license or above (equivalent license from issuing country accepted)
Certified paraglider (EN B or above), harness with emergency reserve parachute and helmet.
Ability to confidently take off and land on your own.
Unlocked VHF radio – we recommend the Yaesu FT-270.
GPS to programme tasks, XC track or FlySkyHy with task programming possibilites.
FAI License of CIVL ID if you wish to recieve FAI points from the competition to rank internationally.
Warm clothes – you will feel the cold once you’ve thermalled to cloud base
Insurance covering paragliding with medical, repatriation and third party coverage. USHPA does not cover third party insurance outside of USA. You will not be able to take part in the course without insurance coverage.
