General Paragliding Questions

+ What is paragliding

Paragliding is a form of free flight, using only the wind and thermals (updrafts) to gain altitude and glide through the sky on a soft sail aircraft.

+ What is USHPA?

USHPA is the United States Hangliding and Paragliding Association. This body governs paragliding in the USA and is also where Zion has received his tandem and instructors rating from. If you take a beginners course with us you will receive your P2 beginner's license administered by Zion which is rated by USHPA too. You can find out more on their website.

Learning to Paraglide

+ How do you learn to paraglide?

You can see the breakdown of our beginner course in Costa Rica or Iquique to get an idea of how we teach you. Before you take-off, you will practise ground handling skills until you can comfortably keep the wing above your head. This is harder to do than actually fly and once you have got the hang of it you will be ready for your first few small flights. We offer radio guidance throughout our beginner course so you're never going it alone.

+ If I take the beginner course will I receive my USHPA P2 license?

Most people receive their P2 license after completing the nine-day course but it does require you to reach all the necessary requirements and pass the test.

+ What happens if I don't obtain my P2 license?

This rarely happens but in this case, we try to add a few extra days of flying for you to meet the requirements. This is why we recommend booking some extra days after the course before your flight home but also because it's fun to fly and you won't want to stop once you've got airborne.

+ How much is a P2 license?

The P2 license is payable via an annual membership to USHPA, it's about $150 (USD) depending on a few options. This is a separate cost from the course fee.

+ Do you administrate P3 licenses on the progress course?

At this time we are not offering P3 administration. Our progress course can take people to that level but you will need to complete the required amount of flights and hours prior to the course with a flight log record to show. We simply can't achieve the required amount of flying time during the course as it can take a few months for the required amount of hours to be flown.

+ I already have a P2 license can I obtain my P3 with you?

At this time we are not offering P3 administration. Our progress course can take people to that level but you will need to complete the required amount of flights and hours prior to the course with a flight log record to show. We simply can't achieve the required amount of flying time during the course as it can take a few months for the required amount of hours to be flown.

+ I have a license from another country, can I still take your progress course?

Yes, we accept licenses from other countries at the equivalent level of a P2 for our progress course.

+ Is the beginner course suitable for me if I've already had some lessons?

Absolutely. Whilst the course is designed for novices it is still good for pilots who've only had a handful of lessons. The course will give you plenty to learn and there's no such thing as too much kiting.

+ What course is more suitable for me, I've had 20-30 flights?

With this amount of flights, it may be best to join the beginner course on day 4. That being said, if you are flying confidently and can take-off and land on your own then the progress course could be right for you to take your flying to the next level. This needs to be assessed on a pilot by pilot basis and is not a one answer fits all question.

+ Do you provide equipment for students taking your courses?

At this time we do not have the capacity to provide equipment to students. To learn to fly with us you will need your own equipment or to buy a beginner bundle from us. We offer a package deal price when you choose to take our course and buy a beginner kit together.

+ What's included in the beginner kit?

We offer a Gin Gliders beginner kit. This includes a Sprint 3 wing, Gingo Airlite Harness, Reserve Parachute, Helmet and G-wrap.

+ What's the delivery time of a beginner kit?

If everything is in stock the delivery time is up to 2 weeks. Where items are not in stock the delivery time can vary or we can switch out to a suitable alternative item to ensure timely delivery. Note: There is no option to switch paraglider from a Sprint 3 to something else.

+ How much is the beginner course, beginner kit or bundle?

Please contact us for prices based on your requirements and we will be happy to answer any further questions.

+ How much is the progress course?

Please contact us for prices and we will be happy to answer any further questions.

+ How much is private tuition?

Please contact us for prices based on your requirements and we will be happy to answer any further questions.

+ Do your courses include accommodation?

We don't include accommodation at this time. However, we do work with local hotels and hostels to offer preferential rates to our students. You are also free to choose any accommodation to suit your taste and budget.

+ Do you pick up from the airport?

For our course in Iquique, we offer an airport pick-up and drop-off service to our students. In Costa Rica, we currently do not offer this service however, we can send a private taxi to pick you up or provide detailed instructions on how to take the bus to the meeting place.

TANDEM ParAgliding Flights and Tours

+ How much is a tandem flight?

A tandem flight for one passenger costs $120 (USD)

+ Do you offer a group discount?

We do for groups of 5 or more. Please get in touch for group pricing.

+ How long is does each flight last?

Each flight is about 20 minutes but can vary slightly in length based on the weather conditions

+ How long is the tour?

The total tour time is approximately 2 hours (based on 3 passengers flying) from pick-up to have you returned to the meeting point. Whilst we try to keep within this time frame, sometimes it can take a little longer if we have to wait for the wind cycles to come through.

+ What is the meeting place for the tour?

We meet all our clients outside Mama Toucans supermarket in Dominical. From there, we ride up in our vehicle to the take-off.

+ Where do we take-off from?

The take-off is located at Cerro Escaleres behind Dominical beach

+ How do we get to the take-off?

We ride up in our vehicle to the take-off, this takes about 20 minutes

+ Are your pilots qualified?

All our pilots are USHPA qualified tandem pilots and have many years of experience.

+ Do I need to bring anything with me?

We recommend bringing along some footwear you can easily run a few steps in (and that won't fall off once airborne), a small bottle of water and sun protection.

+ Can I bring my bag(s) with me?

It's best to leave any big bags at your accommodation or in a safe place. There is a compartment for small bags and day packs in the harness but we prefer you to come with as little luggage as possible.

+ Do you offer a photo service?

Yes, we do. Our pilots will take about 20 photos and 2 videos throughout your flight. These will be available for you to purchase once you have landed.

+ How much is the photo service?

Our photo service costs $30 (USD) per passenger and you will receive all your pictures on an SD card for you to take home.

+ I bought photos but my SD card isn't working?

No problem, as long as you contact us within 7 days of your flight we will be able to send you a back up of your pictures. After the 7 days, we erase all images for storage reasons and we won't be able to recover your pictures.

+ Can I bring my phone or camera?

You can bring your phone and camera with you but we will have to put it safely away for the flight in the built-in compartment.

+ Can I wear my sunglasses?

You can wear your sunglasses, the flight is mellow and relaxed with a few turns, they won't fall off.

+ Is there an age limit?

No, but we do require all passengers to meet a minimum weight and be able to run a few steps to take-off.

+ Is there a weight limit?

Yes, for safety reasons we can't take passengers under 20kg or over 120kg (45-240lbs)

+ Where will I land?

You will land either on top of the mountain, in the same place as the take-off or on the beach.

+ Can someone who is not taking a tandem flight come to the take-off?

Anyone is welcome to come to the take-off but we cannot guarantee space in our car for a ride up to those who are not flying with us.

*All tandem passengers and course students are required to sign a waiver of responsibility prior to flight and/or the course
