Site Rules and Regulations

To ensure the safety of all pilots and passengers in Dominical, the following guidelines have been established:

  • License Requirements
All pilots must possess at least a P2 level license (or equivalent) to paraglide in Dominical. The appropriate license is needed for the activity being carried out, eg. an instructors license is required to teach, see instructor rules below.

  • Site Introduction
Pilots with a P2 level license are required to request a site introduction before flying. This service is free of charge and can be provided by any of Zion Paragliding’s tandem instructors on the day of your flight.

  • Registration
All pilots must register to fly in Dominical, either online prior to arrival or on-site at the take-off area. If you register online, please present your confirmation email to the take-off assistant.

  • Take-Off Fee
A take-off fee of 5,000 colones (or equivalent in US Dollars) is required for all pilots. This fee can be paid in cash on the day and covers unlimited flights for the entire day for solo pilots.

  • Take-Off Zones
The take-off area consists of two designated zones: the take-off zone and the set-up zone. Pilots must use the appropriate zone for each activity.
To enter the take-off zone, pilots must be ready, wearing their harness and securely clipped into their glider.

  • Tandem Priority
Tandem flights have priority in the take-off zone and are permitted to set up in this area as needed.

  • Commercial Tandems
Only approved companies are authorized to operate commercial tandem flights in Dominical. Commercial tandem operations outside these companies are strictly prohibited.

  • Top Landing Policy
There is a zero-tolerance policy for top landings at the take-off area due to the presence of power lines, which restrict a safe approach. Pilots who top land will be banned from using the take-off site.

  • Right of Way
Pilots must adhere to standard right-of-way rules while flying in Dominical, giving priority to tandem flights when necessary.

  • For additional information on flying in Dominical, please refer to the Dominical site guide.
