GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Tandem Paragliding

The act of non-motorised (power-free) free flight with a passenger flying in tandem (together with) a single pilot.

Tandem Paragliding Tour(s)

An excursion that includes the shuttle ride to/from the take-off and landing zone form the meeting point and one tandem paragliding fight per client.

Tour(s)

Referring to the Tandem Paragliding Tour(s), see definition above.

Paragliding

The act of free flight, using a non-motorized aircraft, as a solo pilot or in tandem.

Fly (flying)

In this case, Zion Paragliding is referring to the act of Paragliding, see definition above

Activity

Referring to the activity of Tandem Paragliding

Paraglider

Referring to the soft sail aircraft equipment used for paragliding, as a solo paraglider or tandem paraglider.

Harness

Referring to the safety seat attached the paraglider that all pilots and passengers are clipped into for paragliding.

Emergency Reserve

Referring to the emergency reserve parachute used in case of the failure of the paraglider.

Launch

The act of taking off from the ground on a paraglider.

Referring to the specific place designated for taking off.

Take-Off

(The) Weather

The state of the atmosphere at a place and time in to regards heat, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc.

Terms And Conditions

Tandem Paragliding

Tandem paragliding with Zion Paragliding can be defined as a non-motorised (power-free) form of free flight of a passenger flying in tandem (together with) a single pilot.

Each tandem paragliding flight can only hold one passenger in addition to the pilot. A maximum and minimum of 2 people (the pilot and passenger) can fly at once.

Tandem paragliding relies on the weather for flying. Thermals (up-drafts) and/or dynamic wind, and wind in the correct direction is required to safely fly passengers.

The Activity

The activity lasts approximately 20 minutes. We say approximately because this activity relies on the weather (see clause about The Weather) and there is no one flight exactly the same. Flights may be longer or shorter and this is beyond our control. We don’t give refunds for shorter flights, just like we wouldn’t charge you more for a longer one.

Tandem paragliding tours last between 2-3 hours but this number could be shorter or longer due to a number of factors including but not limited to (so anything that fulls outside of our foreseen circumstances that we have listed here), the number of people booked onto the tour, traffic driving to the launch, waiting for weather conditions to improve, waiting for other tandems and solo pilots to take-off.

We do not offer refunds if the tandem pargliding tour in its entirety or part is shorter or longer than stated.

We do not compensate for missed appointments due to our tandem paragliding tours running for a longer time. Please make sure you leave plenty of time after the tour before your next appointment.

Take-off/Launch

Taking off is only considered a take-off once you become airborne and fly away from the ridge and take-off location. This marks the beginning of the tandem paragliding flight for that passenger. It can take several attempts to take-off but our pilots usually go on the first try.

Tandem Paragliding is offered in the Dominical area. The take-off/launch is located at Cerro Escalares on the ridge behind Dominicalito beach.

All bookings are made for this location unless otherwise stated when booking, the only other place to launch from being Los Indios, Rivas (bookings are taken by request for this take-off site).

If on the day Zion Susanno or the pilot in charge deems another take-off or launch site more suitable for tandem paragliding, the activity and tour will take place there without prior notice.

We will never switch a tandem paragliding tour from Dominical to Los Indios, Rivas without prior warning. We will only switch with another take-off along the coastal range but this rarely happens.

Landing

The pilot landing the tandem paraglider and once it is no longer airborne, marks the end of the paragliding part of the tour for that passenger.

The landing will be at the official landing zones of either Cerro Escalares (the same place as take-off) or the beach of Dominicalito or Dominical.

Zion Paragliding cannot guarantee to land at any of the listed landing zones or a specific beach.

If the take-off location is changed on the day, the landing zone will change accordingly to the official landing zone for that location.

Emergency landings are rare but do happen. In this case, the pilot will land in a place deemed fit and suitable based on the emergency. We assess refunds for emergency landed flights on a case by case basis.

The Weather

The weather is a big factor in tandem paragliding and Zion Paragliding only tandem paraglides when the weather is suitable to do so. Zion Susanno or the pilot in charge on the day will deem whether it is a safe to tandem paraglide (it usually is but just in case).

If the forecast shows the weather to be unsuitable for tandem paragliding, Zion Paragliding will cancel with as much notice as possible. (See the clause about Cancellations for more info).

If Zion Paragliding and the passengers arrive at the take-off and find the weather unsuitable to tandem paraglide the tour group may have to wait for up to an hour, and sometimes longer, to see if the conditions improve.

If the conditions do improve and are suitable for tandem paragliding the activity of tandem paragliding will take place.

If the conditions do not improve and it’s not possible to tandem paraglide, the tour will terminate and Zion Paragliding will return all clients back to the meeting point (see clause about Meeting Point). The tour will be rescheduled where possible or refunded where payment has already been made.

If the tour group arrives at the take-off and the weather is suitable for tandem paragliding, flights for each passenger will commence. If however, the weather changes and becomes unsuitable for tandem paragliding partway through the tour, the remainder of the tour will be cancelled and all tandem paragliders in the air associated with Zion Paragliding will land.

Remaining passengers who have not flown will be rescheduled where possible, or refunded where payment has already been made.

Passengers who have flown or flown in part before the termination of the tour are not entitled to a refund (see clause The Activity)

Zion Paragliding may deem it unsuitable to fly whilst other tandem paragliders or solo pilots may still take-off. Zion Paragliding is doing so for the safety of passengers and our pilots.

Meeting Point

The meeting point is where clients and Zion Paragliding meet to begin the tandem paragliding tour and take the shuttle to the take-off location.

The usual meeting point is outside Mama Toucan’s Organic Market in Dominical. See the map here.

It is possible to arrange for shuttle pick-up from accommodation that is based in Dominical. This must be arranged and confirmed in advance.

Zion Paragliding does not pick-up from accommodation outside of Dominical. It is the clients' responsibility to arrive at the meeting point in good time.

When booking online the meeting point is by default Mama Toucan’s Market. Unless pick-up from accommodation in Dominical is requested and confirmed by Zion Paragliding in advance, the meeting point will remain at Mama Toucan’s.

You can arrange a specific pick-up location in Dominical by calling or Whatsapp on +506 8711 5683, email info@zionparagliding.com, or by using the request field in the booking form when booking online. Please await confirmation from Zion Paragliding for this to be considered arranged.

Once the tandem paragliding tour is complete Zion Paragliding will return clients to the initial meeting point location (including accommodation only if you were picked up from there) or to any location in Dominical town on the Main Street or beach. We don’t need an advanced request if you want to be dropped off somewhere else in Dominical town.

Clients should meet at the meeting point at the confirmed tour time of either 10 AM or 1 PM. Clients being picked up from accommodation should be ready to leave when the shuttle arrives at the confirmed tour time.

Clients running late to the meeting point should give advanced warning where possible. We will do the same if we are on the rare occasion running late (it happens to the best of us).

The shuttle will wait for 15 minutes before leaving if the client is running late and has not been able to give prior warning and other clients are booked on to the same tour.

If no other clients are booked onto the same tour, and where clients arrive too late for the tour to be completed, the activity will be cancelled. This will still be chargeable at the full amount and treated as a no-show (see clause Bookings for more information).

Where possible we would rather reschedule your tandem paragliding tour than leave you high and dry. So get in contact if we didn’t have a chance to talk already.

Shuttle Service

The shuttle service includes a ride from the meeting point to the take-off, and a ride from the landing zone to the meeting point only.

Zion Paragliding cannot guarantee a space in the shuttle for spectators but when there is a spare seat(s) we can take them along.

Zion Paragliding cannot guarantee space in the shuttle for additional luggage other than one day pack per person. We will try to squeeze in any additional luggage but our paragliding equipment always takes priority, for this we suggest leaving any additional luggage and valuables in a safe location.

Clients and friends/relatives of clients are allowed to follow the Zion Paragliding shuttle up to the take-off in their own vehicle with 4x4. If clients taking part in the tour have chosen to drive their own vehicle to the take-off, an individual not taking part in the tour must be able to drive the vehicle back down the mountain. Zion Paragliding does not take responsibility for other vehicles following the shuttle to the take-off and cannot guarantee retrieval of a vehicle should no person be available to drive it back down the mountain.

Anyone is free to visit the take-off site at any time to experience the views in their own vehicle with 4x4, hiking or by any other mode of transport. If you do so you are not in anyway affiliated with Zion Paragliding or the tour and are not covered by the Zion Paragliding insurance. FYI, if no tandems are flying the take-off site may be closed by the landowners.

Group Bookings

Zion Paragliding accepts group bookings up to a maximum of 10 passengers. Group bookings of 8 or more need to be made with at least 2 days notice. When the group booking is of 6 or more passengers the group will split across two tours due to capacity in our vehicle to travel to the take-off.

Zion Paragliding requires full payment in advance to confirm all group bookings of 6 or more. This can be paid in cash, via a payment link on our website or through PayPal.

Waiver Of Responsibility

All clients taking part in the Tandem Paragliding tour are required to sign a waiver of responsibility prior to the tour commencing.

Zion Paragliding stores these waivers in a secure location to protect your data and privacy.

An additional waiver is provided by the landowner of the take-off for all passengers and pilots flying to sign. This additional waiver is not in anyway associated with Zion Paragliding.

Payments

Payment for bookings is taken in advance where possible for the whole amount.

Bookings can be paid in cash, via a payment link from our website or through Paypal.


Cancellations

We get it, things change, so you can cancel when you need to.

Cancellations made 24 hours before the tour time will be refunded in full (where payment has already been made)

Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the tour time will be refunded in part at 50% of the total cost (where payment has already been made), or charged at 50% of the total cost where payment has not yet been made.

Cancellation made less than 6 hours before the tour time are not entitled to a refund where payment has already been made or will be charged in full where payment has not yet been made. But please contact us, we would much rather reschedule your tour to have you fly with us.

When booking with less than 24 hours notice, please note your booking cannot be cancelled.

Rescheduling

You still want to fly but something came up, no worries!

Rescheduling a tour can be done up to 24 hours in advance. Please phone/ WhatsApp on +506 8711 5685 or email info@zionparagliding.com to inquire about another time/date.

We say up to 24 hours in advance but if you needed to reschedule after that time we would absolutely see what we can do for you. Please note, rescheduling less than 6 hours before the tour time and date might not be possible.

When booking with less than 24 hours notice, please note your booking may not be able to be rescheduled.

On the rare case that Zion Paragliding needs to reschedule we will give you as much notice as possible to reschedule your tour or a full refund will be given where no alternative time or date can be arranged, if payment has already been made.


No-shows

No-shows aren’t fun for anyone but sometimes life gets in the way and it happens.

Unfortunately, Zion Paragliding charges for no-shows because we invest our time and money to make the tour happen. Where payment has already been made no refund is possible, or where payment has not yet been made, the full amount will still be charged.

But, we also don’t want to be those guys. So if you couldn’t make it, get in contact and we will try to reschedule your tour for you.

Just so you know, Zion Paragliding will never ‘not show’, unless maybe an zombie apocalypse happens.


Refunds

We only make refunds in the same method as the initial payment.

Where a credit or debit card has been used to pay, the refund will be made to the same card.

Booking Online

Availability

When booking online, availability can be seen using the booking system.

Payments

All online bookings require payment in full through the online payment gateway.

Cancellations

If you made your booking online it’s possible to make a cancellation 24 hours before the tour time and it will be refunded in full minus a $5 booking fee, via the same online payment method.

If you made your booking online and need to make a cancellation with less than 24 hours before the tour time, a refund amount of 50% of the total price will be refunded, via the same online payment method.

If you made your booking online and need to make a cancellation less than 6 hours before the tour time, no refund can be given. But please contact us, we would much rather reschedule your tour to have you fly with us.

The computer system processes refunds for us and it’s not possible to refund to a different payment card.

When booking online with less than 24 hours notice, please note your booking cannot be cancelled.

Rescheduling

When booking online it is possible to reschedule your own tour up to 24 hours before the tour time. To do this please use the confirmation email you have been sent and click the reschedule link at the bottom. You are free to choose an alternative time or date that suits you from the available time slots.

It’s not possible to reschedule your tour online or otherwise less than 24 hours before the tour time but we would absolutely see what we can do for you. Please note, rescheduling less than 6 hours before the tour time and date might not be possible.
